                                                                    ABOUT ME

I toiled for many years over the research for and the writing of The Devil’s Marriage. I had the time to do it after retiring from working in the retail industry, the insurance industry, the manufacturing industry, university teaching, the not-for-profit research sector, and the U.S. government. In writing my book I also drew on my first-hand experiences with the fifth corpocracy since the 1970’s, although I did not know the term “corpocracy” until 20 some years later. 

I received my undergraduate degree from Indiana University and my Ph.D. in organizational psychology from The Ohio State University in 1963. I am a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.

My doctoral dissertation was about personal and organizational values, a subject that still interests me very much because values influence human behavior and whether we live in a civilized society. Since retiring I have gone beyond my own field to delve into economics, history, humanism, moral philosophy, political science, public affairs, and theology. Learning more about these subjects also helped me to write The Devil’s Marriage.

In 1996 my wife and I moved to Palm Coast, FL where we still live. We have two daughters and two grandsons.

On December 28, 2011 I suffered a nearly fatal heart attack. I am now recovering but at the age of nearly 77 I will be slowing down.

My Other Writings

My first book, Tall Performance from Short Organizations through We/Me Power. (AuthorHouse, 2002), is about managing performance in non-hierarchical, empowering organizations, the opposite of the traditional, hierarchical, undemocratic organization. A reviewer in a professional journal said “---the model that Brumback proposes is a compelling and unique one—and could possibly be the practical way to go in tomorrow’s world.”

I have also written two e-Kindle books; Party Politics: Don’t Get Caught Speechless! (Amazon e-Kindle Book, 2010) and Corporations and the Gold Standard (Amazon e-Kindle Book, 2010). The first of these two is a prelude to The Devil’s Marriage and is a lighter and much shorter version that has one-liners as well as some more serious narrative you can use if you wish whenever the party talk or talk wherever you happen to be turns to politics and the sad state of the union. The second sketches a model of a great corporation that could depend on its own positive performance in seeking the gold standard of corporate greatness. If the corpocracy on which corporations depend for hand outs and immunity from wrongdoing were ever to be eliminated, corporate self reform will be essential for corporate survival.

I have written over 50 published book reviews on a multitude of non-fiction subjects, many professional journal articles, and presentations at professional meetings. 

I tell you about all of my writings so that you know what you may already sense; that writing is in my blood, a way of life, but, I hasten to add, it is just one dimension of my life, and not the most important one at that.
